As part of my graduate research, we are required to research design mentors within a selected area of focus. I have narrowed down the designers I have looked (one from each category below), I selected these designers because they share a common sports inspired influence in their design work. Characteristics of sports inspired fashion include focus on shape, pattern cutting, dissecting lines, layers, cut-outs and body conscious silhouette distortion. All of these qualities encompass my own design aesthetic and will be explored in my graduate collection. These designers are listed below along with reasons for my selection:

Emerging Designer: David Koma (Bodycon line work)
Local Designer: Dion Lee (Cut-outs and pattern cutting with play on bodycon silhouettes)
International Designer: Alexander Wang (Fabrication juxtaposition and silhouette distortion)
Historical Designer: Mugler (Sport inspired exaggerated silhouettes. Evolution of aesthetic. Playful use of line/shape)

Below is a Lineup of work from each of the design mentors mentioned, along with some examples of my work as a visual example of the aesthetic I am researching.
