Somer and Liberty Watson make up the sibling duo Watson X Watson. I selected the brand in my emerging desighers research as they are very recently established and hence will provide a different perspective for my research.
The label Watson X Watson was launched in 2011, by the Watson sisters. The brand debuted at Mercedes Benz Fashion week the following year, providing the label with a quick step forward. The ‘X’ in the label name signifies:
“A kiss, a cross of faith, and ‘x’ to mark the spot where wondering ends and hard work and inspiration take over to create something special”
At this point, according to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia, the duo currently have 100 stockists nationwide and are growing at a steady pace.
Unique Selling Proposition
The official website for Watson X Watson describes the brand aesthetic and having:
“…soft fits and clean lines, each pick of their collection is effortlessly wearable, refined and relaxed.”
This is evidence of the label projecting their selling point as the reputation for Watson X Watson lies in the wear-ability and relaxed nature of their aesthetic.
As I mentioned the brand has a focus on stylish wear-ability. From the aesthetic of the official website and logo to the garments displayed on the catwalk, the duos design style appears to have clear sporty influences, evident in the choice f mesh and sports fabrication and use of sporty cuts and trims such as pant vents and drawstrings. This style is combined with elements of classic tailoring, through use of tucks and darts, finishing and classic suit elements to create the brands refreshing aesthetic.
